Post-Doctoral Fellowship (Visiting Researcher) at NMBU

Members of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship at NMBU

Dr. Francis Kemausuor, a fellow of TBHEC is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Norway, where he is conducting research into commercial biogas systems in Ghana and on the African continent. The research is looking into the low adoption of commercial biogas systems in Africa and how lessons from outside the continent could help increase the deployment of commercial biogas systems.

The study will then use Ghana as a case study to model commercial biogas systems for the Dormaa Ahenkro municipality, a major poultry rearing area in Ghana. The potential for co-digesting poultry droppings (manure), maize and rice straw for commercial biogas systems will be analysed, for power generation for internal use and excess fed into the national grid.

The study will use the Food and Agricultural Organisations (FAO) Bioenergy and Food Security Rapid Appraisal (BEFS RA) model for the analysis.

A review paper on commercial biogas systems and l essons for Africa has been submitted to the journal energies, and is currently undergoing review. A second paper will be prepared on the Ghana case study
