Masters in Renewable Energy Technologies

Background

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with The Energy Center of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have since 2011 been running a Master of Science Programme in Renewable Energy Technologies (MSc. RETs) with the aim of helping build a critical mass of professionals in sub-Saharan Africa with in-depth knowledge and skills in Renewable Energy Technologies as well as policies for energy access and efficiency. The programme since then has trained over hundred (100) students from all over the African continent.

The programme, which started from the 2016/2017 academic year, is expanded to include Masters of Philosophy in Renewable Energy Technologies (MPhil RETs) and Doctor of Philosophy in Sustainable Energy (PhD SE). The two research focus programmes will give opportunity to students to conduct state-of-the-art research that addresses the energy challenges of Africa at large and sub-Saharan Africa in particular with increased research publications in peer-reviewed journals. The durations for the programmes are as follows:

i. MSc Renewable Energy Technologies – Three (3) semesters

ii. MPhil Renewable Energy Technologies  - Four (4) Semesters

Entry Requirements:

The MSc. and the MPhil in Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) programmes are open to all applicants having the requisite technical background knowledge with the following entry requirements:

i. Candidates must hold a First Class or Second Class Upper honours degree or its equivalent in Engineering or Science from a recognised university, as well as, a minimum of two years working experience in the renewable energy industry.

ii. Candidates who do not directly satisfy the requirements stated above but are otherwise adjudged suitable will be required to take an entrance or qualifying examination followed by an interview.
