The Brew-Hammond Energy Centre, KNUST And National Petroleum Authority Organize A Workshop On LPG Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM)

On Friday, 7th June 2024, The Brew-Hammond Energy Centre at KNUST, in collaboration with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), hosted a sensitization workshop on the new LPG Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM). The workshop aimed to:

  • Enlighten the University community about this significant national initiative and its potential impact on sustainable energy practices.
  • Highlight potential research areas for collaboration, fostering innovation and development within the energy sector.
  • Showcase viable business prospects, encouraging investment and entrepreneurship in the clean cooking sector.

 

In the Provost’s welcome address read by Prof. Francis Momade, he welcomed the NPA workshop on LPG cylinder recirculation, thanked them for a GH100,000 donation to the College Endowment Fund, and proposed further collaboration, including a research Chair and support for postgraduate research. He also invited NPA officials to the College of Engineering Homecoming event from 17th – 21st July 2024.

 Dr. David Ato Quansah, the Director of the Centre highlighted the Centre's pivotal role in energy research and policy development across Africa. He emphasized Ghana's efforts in promoting LPG for clean cooking and outlined the Centre's contributions to national development through extensive collaborations and research initiatives.

The speakers included Dr. Joseph Wilson, Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at NPA, and Mr. Obed Kraine Boachie, Head of Gas Commercial Regulation at NPA. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the innovative LPG Cylinder Recirculation Model and had answers to pressing questions on the model.

In Dr. Joseph Wilson’s presentation, he discussed the role of research institutions in the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) and the promotion of LPG. He addressed issues like employment, business opportunities in the CRM value chain and the impact of CRM on the price of LPG.

Mr. Boachie also presented the history of CRM, the LPG Value chain in Ghana, the key actors in the distribution value chain and their roles as well as the NPA’s strategies and preparations in rolling out the CRM in Ghana.  He emphasized the need to adopt and practice the model in Ghana.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the innovative LPG Cylinder Recirculation Model and had answers to pressing questions on the model.

 

The workshop took place at the New Engineering Block, College of Engineering, KNUST, Kumasi.
