THE BREW-HAMMOND ENERGY CENTRE ORGANIZES WORKSHOP ON ENERGY TRANSITION FOR A NET-ZERO FUTURE IN GHANA

On February 16, 2024, The Brew-Hammond Energy, KNUST, and the Centre for Global Equality hosted a one-day workshop focusing on Ghana's move towards a cleaner energy future. Held at the Amonoo Neizer IDL Conference Centre, KNUST, the event aimed at educating students on Ghana's Energy Transition Plan and related topics such as green hydrogen, electric vehicles (EVs), and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

 

The workshop presented esteemed experts who shared i highly valuable insights. Professor Francis Kemausuor discussed Ghana's journey towards a cleaner energy economy, emphasizing the need to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, which currently make up 80% of Ghana's energy sources. He highlighted the urgency in transitioning to cleaner energy sources to combat climate change.

Mr. Kofi Gyekye-Adarkwa talked about green hydrogen and EVs and highlighted their potential to foster sustainability in Ghana's energy landscape.

Dr. Yen A. Sokama-Neuyam, in his presentation pointed out that efficient resource use and industrialization could boost economic growth while reducing emissions. He challenged the idea that high emissions are necessary for economic prosperity, using Ghana's lower emissions and economic growth as an example.

Moderated by Prof. Joseph Oppong Akowuah, the workshop provided a platform for meaningful discussions.Dr. David Ato Quansah, director of The Brew-Hammond Energy Centre, warmly welcomed participants and offered insights into the center's mission and activities. Dr. Elizabeth Tennyson also warmly welcomed participants, setting the stage for an engaging and collaborative event

The workshop not only deepened participants' understanding of Ghana's energy transition but also inspired action towards a cleaner and more prosperous future. It highlighted the importance of collective efforts in driving sustainable change, empowering the next generation to play a vital role in shaping Ghana's energy landscape.
