TBHEC Organises 2021 Short Courses in Renewable Energy

Short Courses in RE 2021

The Brew-Hammond Energy Centre has once again successfully organised short courses in renewable energy for a total of Thirty-three (33) participants from across the country. The Centre was particularly excited about this session because it is the first being organised since the COVID-19 pandemic struck the entire globe. Some activities of the Centre were put on hold in 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation which included The Short Courses in Renewable Energy Training. Two courses were organised in this session which are the Financial Modelling and Analysis of Renewable Energy Projects Course and Design and Installation of Stand Alone Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. Both courses were run concurrently from 26th to 30th April, 2021 at the College of Engineering Petroleum Building.

A total number of nineteen (3 female, 16 male) were trained for the Solar PV course and fourteen (4 female, 10 male) for the Financial Modelling course. The Solar PV training session was led by Mr. Isaac A. Edwin of the Solar Energy Applications Laboratory (SEAL) at KNUST. He was assisted by Mr. Robert Kofi Kyere, Technician at SEAL. Participants were taken through various aspects of Solar Photovoltaic Technology including - Solar radiation resource assessment; System Design (Load Assessment, PV array sizing, charge regulators, battery bank, cabling, etc); Installation, System maintenance and Management; Economic Assessment of PV projects.

In the Financial Modelling course, Dr. John Bosco Dramani (Snr. Lecturer at the Department of Economics and a Fellow of the Centre) led the course together with Dr. PB Frimpong also from the Department of Economics. The participants were equipped with tools for analysing financial and technical viability of renewable energy projects.

The feedback from the participants were very positive and overwhelming and the participants lauded the Centre for how well organized the session was. A certificate of participation was awarded to the participants at the end of the course.

All COVID 19 protocols were observed to ensure the safety of all participants and personnel of the Centre.
