United Nations Industrial Organization (UNIDO), Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) of Korea, the Korea Institute of Energy, Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI), Ghana is implementing a pilot biogas project to serve as a model to catalyze biogas enterprise development for inclusive and sustainable industrial development across Ghana and the West Africa sub region.  

A Project Coordination Unit (PCU) for the three-year project has been established at The Energy Center, KNUST to coordinate all activities under the project across Ghana and also act as focal point in Ghana for all the international partners. Mr Edward A. Awafo, a Research Associate at The Energy Center is the National Project Coordinator. 

The different activities under the project will be executed in consultation with UNIDO and PCU by The Energy Center and Energy Commission in Ghana; Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Daewoo Engineering and Construction and KEC Systems in Korea. These, including MOTIE and KETEP, constitute the project core team. Other activities may be subcontracted to other institutions if the need arises. 

The project team held a series of meetings from 14 -18 October, 2013 to kick-start the project implementation: bilateral meetings with The Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Dr. Alfred Ofosu Ahenkorah and the Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu (MP) in Accra; technical meetings at TEC in Kumasi and a national stakeholders’ workshop in Accra, which was attended  by over 40 people, including government and energy sector representatives, development partners, biogas entrepreneurs, academia and media
