PhD Researcher

Department The Brew-Hammond Energy Centre

Office-location College of Engineering

Research-areas
Biomass Technology

Gloria Boafo-Mensah is a Research Scientist at Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Institute of Industrial Research (CSIR-IIR). Her PhD research work is on ‘The Design, Construction and Testing of an Improved Biomass Cookstove’.

The aim of this research is to use locally available clay and bauxite materials to design and construct a biomass cookstove to meet the proposed Ghana Standard for Biomass Cookstoves of baseline benchmark Tier 2 standard of 25% thermal efficiency and minimum performance requirement for both PM 2.5 and CO are 137 mg/MJd and 11 g/MJd respectively. Current stoves manufactured in Ghana are operating between 15% and 20% thermal efficiency, which leads to high consumption of fuel wood due to incomplete combustion.

This intervention is necessary to enable Ghana achieve the global goals of sustainable development; Good Health and well-being (Goal 3), Responsible consumption and production (Goal 12) and Climate Action (Goal 13).
