The Energy Center, KNUST has organised a seminar series dubbed Tech Energy Seminar Series in Accra (TESSA 2010). The theme for the seminars was “Sustainable Energy Prospects in Ghana and Africa”. The seminar series looked at the various forms of energy that meet the present needs without compromising the fortunes of future generations. It also looked at sustainable energy sources including all forms of renewable energy, particularly bioenergy (plant matter) and solar power through presentations by some project coordinators of The Energy Center (TEC).
The seminar was held over a period of three days from the 20th to the 22th September, 2010, at the British Council Auditorium, Accra from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm each day. It attracted a lot of participants both civil service and private sector personnel, policy makers and business executives, men, women and children, and media practitioners.
TESSA 2010 was also used as a platform to launch the book, ‘’Energy My Vision’’; the book launch was done by the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. The book is a compilation of presentations made at the Flagbearers on Energy (FoE) special seminar series focusing on policy frameworks for achieving a crisis-free energy sector in Ghana. The book contains the ideas for energy sector development, as put forward by the presidential candidates of the main political parties in the 2008 general election. The ‘’Energy - My Vision’’ book, as said by some, will help Ghanaians from all walks of life – students and professors, politicians and civil society activists, private business men and women, public policy analysts and opinion leaders, to gain a glimpse into the thoughts of the Flagbearers on energy and will ultimately lead to the development of none other than the nation Ghana.
TESSA 2010 was the initiative of The Energy Center, KNUST and was attended by important dignitaries including Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom (2008 Flagbearer of the CPP), Dr Edward Mahama (2008 Flagbearer of the PNC), Mr. Kwaku Awotwi (Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority), Prof. Seth Opuni Asiama (Provost College of Architecture and Planning, KNUST) and Prof. Francis Warings Yao Momade (Provost, College of Engineering, KNUST).
TESSA 2010 was sponsored by the European Union Energy Initiative’s Partnership Dialogue Facility (EUEI-PDF), Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO), Kimminic Ghana Limited, Graphic Communications Group and TRAGRIMACS Sunflower Biodiesel Limited.
