Period: 2020 to 2021
Department of Horticulture, KNUST
SNV Ghana is implementing a four-year joint project titled Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) with the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) with funding from the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands. The GrEEn project is being implemented in two regions, the Western and the Ashanti Regions, with the objective of contributing to addressing the root causes of irregular migration by supporting sustainable and climate resilient local economies, green and decent jobs as well as enterprises in Agriculture, Energy and WASH.
As part of this overarching project, SNV has awarded KNUST a 12-month contract as a service provider to implement the OYE (Opportunities for Youth Employment) approach in the Ashanti region, with a focus on Adansi South District for 2020/21
Expected Outcomes: The GrEEn project seeks to boost green employment and enterprise opportunities in Ghana, specifically the Ashanti and Western regions. Employability and entrepreneurship are the two tracks from which participants are to be trained after which an opportunity is given the participants to have internship or on the job technical training.
The KNUST team is expected to train 300 people in Adansi South District in these sectors.
