KNUST College of Engineering Researchers Visit ASU

qqA team of researchers led by Dr. G. Takyi from The Energy Centre, College of Engineering, KNUST visited Arizona State University (ASU) Photovoltaic Reliability Laboratory (ASU, PRL) from 1st February – 31st March 2015 (visit for year one) and 5th - 25th February 2016 (visit for year two) on a USAID PEER Science Exchange Programme to build capacity in the area of Solar PV Performance (reliability and efficiency) and Modelling.

Dr. Takyi has over 20 year experience in interconnection reliability and is leading KNUST’s effort in the establishment of a state-of-the-art PV test facility at the College of Engineering, the first of its kind in Africa. The purpose of year one’s visit was to identify the list and specification of equipment and also study ASU’s procedure for PV performance tests.

Two PhD students are currently working on topics focusing on the degradation of modules installed in the Sub-Sahara Africa region as well as the optimization of reliability influencing factors (RIF) for reliability improvement using computer modelling and experimental techniques. Year two’s visit from 5th February-25th February 2016 focused on training in performance evaluation part of IEC 61215 Certification at ASU PRL and TUV Rheinland PTL, Tempe, Arizona USA.
