The Africa LEDS Partnership (AfLP) is a member and demand driven partnership ofAfrican governments, NGOs,project developers, and researchers who coactively learn and share experience, expertise and information to enhance climate compatible development of Africa. The objectives of the Africa LEDS Partnership are to:

  1. Promote information exchange and coordination among LEDS programmes and country institutions undertaking and supporting LEDS in Africa.
  2. Cultivate and support LEDS champions across Africa.
  3. Enhance the capacity for the design and implementation of LEDS in Africa.

TBHEC, together withSouth North (SSN) in Cape Town, co-host of the secretariat of AfLP, and is responsible for the overall coordination of theactivities of the partnership and design and implementation of LEDS in Africa. AfLP currently has membership from 23 African Governments and over 400 individuals working towards prosperous, climate-resilient Africa, with inclusive green growth, for the welfare of current and future generations. One of the current flagship programmes of the Partnership is the Africa LEDS Project.

The Project aims to support robust LEDS planning and implementationin eight African countries, and to also build their capacity onLEDS modeling to inform long-term climate policy formulation and socio-economic development. Its coordinated by TBHEC in partnership with UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), with funding from European Commission. The core budget support for the secretariatoperations is provided by US Departmentof State, The Federal Ministry for theEnvironment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMU), Germany and UK based Oversees Development Institute (ODI).
